Arunabh Kumar, CEO of TVF (The Viral Fever), a media firm which produces web entertainment content on the internet has been booked by the Mumbai Police today. A FIR has been lodged under sections 354 A (causing sexual harassment) and 509 (insult the modesty of a woman by indecent words, gesture or acts) of Indian Penal Code, said DCP Ashwini Snap, the police spokesperson.
However, Arunabh had not been arrested yet. And the identity of the complainant has not been disclosed. Arunabh may apply for anticipatory bail. Earlier this month, an anonymous blog post by a woman alleging sexual harassment to her by Kumar when she worked at TVF between 2014 and 2016 had gone viral on the social media.
And the post was followed by similar allegations by some other women. TVF had denied all the allegations and said it would “leave no stone unturned to find the author of the article and bring them to severe justice for making such false allegations.”
Arunabh Kumar is an IIT Graduate who laid the foundation of the company in 2011. TVF have covered topics such as Indian politics, movies, lifestyle, social concepts, etc in their videos.
As of December 2016, TVF videos have more than two million subscribers on YouTube. They have now created a separate website to host their videos called TVF Play. Owing to its growing popularity with both TVF Pitchers and Permanent Roommates being watched by millions around the globe, they received funding of $10 Million from Tiger Global as was reported on 17th Feb 2016.
