Bhaijaan, after his blockbuster venture “Being Human” is betting on the smartphones industry. A report by ET states that Salman Khan is currently building an operational management team to be headed by a professional with leadership stretch at Samsung and Micromax.
The Bollywood superstar who rocked the box office with mega hits like Dabangg, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Kick is approaching a batch full of investors for his smartphone venture “BeingSmart”. BeingSmart trademark was registered for smartphones targeted at the entry to middle market segments.
Salman may take the majority shareholding directly or through his family in the brand, after the success of the clothing brand Being Human. Mr. Khan also selected the Chinese plant and initial phone models that will run on Android for less than ₹20,000.
The BeingSmart brand may face stiff competition from Chinese majors like Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo. Indian brands like Micromax and Intex are facing tremendous competition from these Chinese brigades. Sources predict that the smartphones will be initially sold online, and later offline through strategic partnerships.
The devices may be sold through existing Being Human stores too. Being Human brand is licensed to Mandhana Retail Ventures which operates numerous outlets in various cities aligned to selling apparel and fashion accessories. However, There was no response to an email sent to Khan through his celebrity management company Matrix.
The idea came 2 years ago into the mind of Mr. Khan. Some of the brands approached him but eventually backed off due to Salman’s high royalty demands. Sallu Bhai this time is himself driving the show and searching for an investor, as officials and executives say.
