India’s largest ride-hailing firm Ola is expected to make some changes in its leadership roles. Bhavish Aggarwal, the co-founder of the company has been serving the firm as CEO since its inception in 2011. However, according to sources, he can soon step aside and Ankit Bhati, co-founder of the firm may take his place. Ankit Bhati has been serving the firm as CTO since its inception.
Bhavish will lead the company as the group CEO and will focus on raising capital and scale up its newly acquired Foodpanda. Ankit Bhati will focus on reorganizing the company’s ride-hailing services and improving Ola’s leadership. Ankit has been the man behind scenes for Ola and the recent development will shift the media focus to him. Till date, Aggarwal has been the public face of the company.
Ankit Bhati is an IIT Bombay alumnus holding a B.Tech as well as M.Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious institution. After his graduation, he started working on Ola Cabs with Bhavish Aggarwal. Bhavish too is an IIT Bombay alumnus. The two of them have been together since then.
Earlier in 2016, Sachin Bansal stepped down as the Flipkart CEO and Binny Bansal took the role to become the group CEO. Just like Flipkart, Ola has expanded to new areas and this has opened up the requirements of a group CEO. The firm has expanded its services to countries like Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Recently, the firm acquired Foodpanda in India, through which it aims to compete with Uber Eats and enter the food delivery segments. A lot of major players like Zomato, Swiggy, and Uber Eats are giving it a tough time to Ola. As such, Aggarwal is set to look at Ola’s overall operations and expansion in the food delivery segment and Ankit will take of the company’s core ride-hailing services.
